Cheek Augmentation in Westchester, NY
Many women dream of having high, full cheekbones. While your bone structure is important, it is not the only factor in having full cheeks. Most of your midface fullness comes from the layer of fat that sits on top of the bone. Unfortunately, this fat diminishes with age, sun damage, smoking, and stressful lives. Often, women choose to offset these changes and restore volume to the cheeks with dermal fillers or fat transfer. Both of these treatments provide significant facial fullness; however, dermal fillers are not permanent, and a facial fat transfer doesn’t always allow your surgeon complete control over the exact shape of the injected fat.
Cheek augmentation with implants is a permanent facial contouring solution to hollowed or flattened cheeks. These implants are available in various sizes and shapes to restore fullness.
Am I a Candidate for Cheek Augmentation?
Cheek augmentation uses implants to create and reinforce the appearance of healthy and fuller cheeks. This cosmetic facial surgery is appropriate for women and men hoping to strengthen their cheekbone area or restore the lifted and rounded look that was present in their youths. Candidates for cheek augmentation do not smoke, are in good overall health, and have realistic expectations of their results.
Cheek augmentation can be performed as a standalone procedure or in combination with facelift surgery or mini-facelift surgery.
How Is Cheek Augmentation Performed?
During your consultation with one of our board-certified cosmetic surgeons, you and your surgeon will decide on the size and shape of the implant that will be used to augment your midface contour.
Chin augmentation is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia in one to two hours, depending on the extent of your needs and whether your cheek augmentation is being performed with another facial surgery.
A small incision will be made inside of the mouth to insert the implant over the cheekbone. This implant will be securely anchored to the bone within a created pocket. The incisions are closed with sutures.
Because the incisions are made within the mouth, there will be no visible scarring.
What Is My Cheek Augmentation Recovery Like?
While cheek augmentation is an outpatient procedure, you will need to arrange for transportation to and from our surgical center. Most cheek augmentation patients do not experience significant pain; however, there will be some soreness and numbness due to the swelling. Over-the-counter pain medication and a soft-food diet are recommended to ease comfort during the initial stages of your recovery.
Patients can usually return to work and light exercise after one week. While complications are rare, patients may develop bleeding, poor scarring, shifting of the implant, and infection.
Patients will be provided with Dr. Karlinsky’s cell phone number so that she can be reached for any questions or concerns during recovery.
What Results Can I Expect After Cheek Augmentation?
The results of your cheek augmentation will be noticeable immediately after the surgery but will continue to fine-tune as the swelling subsides and the implants settle. Cheek augmentation provides permanent fullness.
